Steak Trivia: Viral Clips, Records and Knives

Most questions at the table are about aging or doneness. But sometimes a guest brings up something else entirely: “did you see that fork video?” or “how many people could eat one tomahawk?” Here are a few fresh steak facts from the internet and the record books.

The fork in the wrong hand – a clip that split the internet

TikTok user Kennedy Leo went viral after a video of her cutting into a steak during a solo dinner, knife in her left hand, fork in her right. The clip has racked up over 972,600 views, and commenters are still arguing about whether that’s even the right way to hold cutlery.

1,734 steaks in one day – a Tokyo record

The record for the most servings of freshly cooked beef steaks sold in 24 hours at a restaurant stands at 1,734, set by Ikinari Steak in Shinagawa, Tokyo, on 3-4 November 2018. That works out to roughly one steak leaving the kitchen every 50 seconds.

A 328-metre skewer of meat

Jiao Yanheng and Jilin Hongyang Catering Management set the record for the longest skewer of meat in Jinan, China, on 5 July 2026, at 328.36 metres, using over 1,500 kg of pork and 333 barbecue grills. Not beef, but the scale alone is worth knowing about.

French butchers made a hippo’s worth of filet mignon

Fourteen butcheries from the BVM Les Bouchers Traiteurs network in Normandy teamed up to serve the weight of a hippo in filet mignon. In the end they went through over 8,500 lbs, or 3,855.90 kg, of meat. Worth noting: in France, filet mignon usually means pork tenderloin, not beef.

The knife that gives away where you’re from

Food Republic once described how staff at one steakhouse match the knife to the guest’s nationality. Americans with bigger hands get steered toward the classic, ergonomic Nevada Steak Knife, while most women are offered a Laguiole, since over 90 percent pick it on their own anyway. Germans tend to go for German-made knives, Japanese guests choose the samurai-inspired Shun, and Italians reach for Berti with its buffalo-horn handle.

We care less about servings per day and more about days in the aging cabinet – up to 60, usually 30 or 45. The full description and a short clip of every cut is on our steak menu. If records and numbers are your thing, we also have a piece on steak world records.
